Our History

 

In December 2015 Manuel Castro and his wife, Meritxell Laborda acquired the remaining 50% shares of Lajas project, which they did not own before, becoming the sole owners of the project and converting it into a family endeavor. Lolo (Manuel Castro) and Mery (Meritxell Laborda ) saw their dream came true satisfying some of their great passions: nature, vineyards and wines .


Nowadays

During the years 2016 and 2017 they have been working in diferent areas: In the vineyard planting some missing vines and making holes to finish planting in 2018. In sales, spreading their presence in new export markets as well as gaining new HORECA national customers. In marketing, they are about to present a label re-styling of vintage 2014.

Owners

Manuel Castro: Young and lively “vintner” as he likes to call himself. He has been linked to the D.O Calatayud for more than 14 years, passionately making wines of grenache and macabeo. In love with grenache, Manuel has elaborated wines from all type of soils with this variety (clay, calcareous, slate, etc) and has marketed grenache wines in a wide range of diferent styles. Manuel primarly works as an oenologist at Bodegas Virgen de la Sierra for 14 years now, one of the most prominent wineries in D.O Calatayud. He also advises Axial Vinos group in their Cariñenan project. His passions are his family, the vineyards/wines and travelling.

Meritxell Laborda: Young business woman and social worker. Meri is co-owner of the company Oceano Atlantico, dedicated to training, teaching and all kind of related educational services. She shares with her husband the passion for wines, the vineyards from which they arise and grenache grape variety. Her passions are her family and travelling.

Marcos and Sira: Their little ones. They love to climb the vineyards and spend the day playing with ants, ladybugs or picking flowers. They also love to visit the winery to see his daddy working in harvest. Moreover, these two little adventurers like to go camping in the mountains and travel with their parents.
